MINERALFluorite (Calcite,)
A purple fluorite crystal is embedded within a yellow calcite crystal, creating an unusual growth relationship that defines the specimen's character. The specimen is dominated by honey-yellow calcite, whose surfaces are covered by a layer of fine second-generation calcite crystals, producing a sparkling sugary texture. Fine brownish material is scattered across the crystal surfaces, contributing to the warm golden coloration.
The main fluorite crystal measures approximately 0.6 cm on edge and retains a well-defined cubic habit. It is largely transparent, with purple coloration concentrated along the crystal edges, producing an attractive color-zoned appearance. Natural etching features and growth textures are visible on the crystal faces. In addition to the main crystal, numerous tiny fluorite crystals are scattered among the drusy second-generation calcite, adding complexity to the association.
Some calcite crystals adjacent to the fluorite display localized iridescent colors, showing subtle blue, green and golden hues under reflected light. These colors may be related to a thin oxidized surface film.
Under 365 nm UV light, both the main fluorite crystal and the smaller associated fluorites exhibit intense blue-violet fluorescence, while the calcite shows a weak pale red reaction. Under 254 nm UV light, the fluorite is largely non-fluorescent; instead, orange-pink fluorescence outlines the growth boundaries of the main calcite crystal, producing distinctive linear patterns that clearly reveal the crystal structure. This unusual fluorescence effect is one of the specimen's most notable features.
